Fortune Names Alumnus one of the World’s Greatest Leaders for Action in Ferguson

Teach For America alumnus and activist DeRay McKesson and his partner in action, Johnetta Elzie, have been receiving significant recognition for their roles in the movement that has emerged since Mike Brown was killed on August 9, 2014. McKesson left a school administrator role in Minneapolis to dedicate himself to the burgeoning social justice movement. This week, Fortune Magazine named the pair one of fifty of the World’s Greatest Leaders. Through their participation in and chronicling of the events in Ferguson, they created an award-winning online newsletter with over 15,000 subscribers, This Is the Movement. Their goal is to amplify the message.
