Teach For America– St. Louis is pleased to name Redrick Taylor (STL ’11) as our first annual TFA- St. Louis HuSTLe Award for Diversity. Redrick was nominated by Rebecca Marks (STL ’13). In her nomination, Rebecca stated: “Redrick is the only black male teacher at our school, and he is one of the few teachers who has been around since the founding of South City Prep three years ago. He is a loving, consistent presence in the lives of our children, and is one of the few role models who can speak candidly with them about the effects of institutionalized racism on his own life, and on theirs. He goes above and beyond for our children every day, staying at school late daily to plan, and coaching and coordinating the basketball teams. He holds our students to high expectations in both science and collaborates extensively with other teachers to serve our students to the best of his ability.”
Redrick is in his third year teaching science at South City Prep, and he served as the corps-nominated speaker at last year’s alumni induction. Congratulations to Redrick, and keep up the great work! Nominations are currently being accepted for our February HuSTLe Award for Team. Nominate someone today!
